Live Oak Cave, Travis County, Texas
February 2017
Gate Type: FLAT
We worked with the City of Austin, who owned the cave, to close a place where local “kids” were trying to break in by digging out fill at the edge of a sinkhole. The cave was previously gated by others, but this new access point would allow unauthorized entry and likely vandalism. Since the single-room cave was already full of surface invertebrates, but was used in City-run educational programs, we opted for a trap-door design to permit through trips. Photo © Jim Kennedy.
