Hammett Mine, Cherokee County, South Carolina
April 2023
Gate style: BASIC
A short mine dug by a gold prospector (who never hit it big) became an important bat roost in cave and mine poor South Carolina. Although not impressive by some state’s standards, it nevertheless was a high priority for protection. The commute to the mine from the steel staging and cutting area was brutal, but we managed to knock it out in one extremely long day. And we even got the truck packed before the big thunderstorm hit!
