Lady Bird Lounge Cave, Travis County, Texas
July 2022
Gate Type: FLAT
This is a pretty “new” cave, discovered by accident after a prescribed burn. What was thought to be smoke from smouldering material turned out to be warm cave air blowing out from some rocks and turning to a vapor cloud upon hitting the cold winter air. Excavation proceeded, and a significant cave with large rooms and pristine speleothems was revealed. But the cave was near a trail and a parking lot, so it had to be protected. We built a simple flat gate over the entrance, well-anchored to the surrounding bedrock. Unfortunately, we’ve misplaced the photos of the actual gating, but we’ll post them when we find them.
